Training and licensing sample plan
1. Foundation
Complete a basic firearm safety or home firearm safety course. Keep the course name, instructor, date, and certificate if provided.
2. Official requirement research
Use your state page and local official sources to identify whether any permit, license, training, storage, transport, or reporting rules apply.
3. Range orientation
Attend a range orientation before independent range time. Ask about range commands, casing, bench rules, target setup, and cease-fire procedure.
4. Firearm-specific instruction
Train on the exact firearm type you own or plan to use. Ask for supervised practice loading, unloading, safe handling, and malfunction response.
5. Home plan
Document storage, household access control, emergency contacts, lighting, communication, and safe-room planning.
6. Refreshers
Schedule recurring practice and periodic re-training. Update records when laws, address, household members, or equipment change.
